Overview
The entire range of laser systems offers cost-efficient, reliable and secure laser based optical transmission for phone and data through the air at speeds between 2 and 155 Mbit/s. The laser transmission carries the data using a concentrated laser beam. An unique modulation technology guarantees trouble-free data transfers over distances of up to 5,000m (3¼ miles). The transmission at the speed of light is not subjected to signal loss of any kind, and can therefore be used for easy integration into existing systems. Practically speaking, the laser system is connected to an optic fiber line via an ST-connector. Since light has been generally admitted as transmitting medium, laser systems require no licensing of frequencies. Moreover, the transmission is not susceptible to electromagnetic interferences. The concentrated laser beam is hard to detect and therefore extremely safe against eavesdropping.
Product Description
The laser system consists of two laser heads and diverse system components. The laser heads are mounted out of doors on rooftops or against building walls. Prerequisite is an unimpaired line of sight between the two operating sites. The laser heads are connected with the outdoor units (ODU). The outdoor unit and the units to be installed indoors have to be connected via cable. The indoor units comprise the power support unit (PSU) of the system and the alarm and monitoring system (LS-ALARM-MON) supplied upon request. The PSU supplies the power for the laser heads over a three-strand cable. The bar graph of the LS-ALARM-MON displays the actually received signal strength, whereas the LEDs signal diverse levels of alarm. The relay contacts also allow to connect an external alarm monitoring device for forwarding the alarm signals.
Investment Protection
By using obsolescence-proof optical interfaces, the laser system protects customers in long-term projects. The modular design allows for simple and low-cost upgrading of the laser systems, e.g. to higher bandwidths or greater range. All of these features guarantee the perfect integration of the laser systems into today’s and tomorrow’s network topologies.
